CPU Resource Monitor and Password needed

I switch off anything that can change the play back also I switch off volume control something else that fiddles with SQ IMO… and no DSP.

The problem with a new Roon install audio analysis is set on by default and you have to be quick the change the settings.

I am uncertain once any audio analysis has been done if the effects are permanent on payback within Roon as Roon must store the information somewhere for playback…
It could be why some people find Roon smearing the playback and prefer LMS as a server ?

I must admit I have been on LMS and Squeeze for a week or so and will be switching back today to Roon Squeeze. I will report back which I prefer SQ wise.

I’ve also found volume control & DSP to be detrimental to sound quality. I only previously left the background analysis on as I couldn’t detect any difference to sound quality when I turned it off.

I suppose it makes sense, being I’m not actually using any of the volume levelling & DSP functions just to turn it off & leave it that way & have now done so. Thank you once again for your helpful input.

The one thing that I like that comes from analysis is the dynamic range indicator. If given a choice between multiple versions of an album, I tend to opt for the least compressed version. The analysis does take awhile if you are running Roon the first time. The CPU usage does harm sound quality but better to get it over with from my perspective. I also like it to do the analysis after I add music because I’m usually not listening when I add music to my library. I keep it set to one core.

It should be noted that the analysis results are stored in the Roon backup. Immediately restoring from backup after Roon is wiped clean is a great move.

I guess the analysis also shows you the waveform. That’s a cool feature that I wish was available for streamed music. Same for the dynamic range indicator.

It’s entirely possible that being as I only committed a fraction of my library to storage, it had already finished analysing by the time I previously turned analysis off. Hence why I may not have noticed a difference in sound quality when doing so. That & I didn’t really listen in any great depth. Let’s just say it wasn’t something that was immediately obvious.

I only added music to the SSD storage that I regularly listened to, on the presumption that if I ever got the urge I could just stream the large majority of the rest.

I’ve still got the other files backed up & if ever Roon get around to adding an index down the side I may just add the rest, but I’m happy enough with it as it is for now.

One thing I liked the resource monitor for was the effect running multiple servers was having. It also helped in picking HQPlayer filters that did not overload the server.

Hi all,

Just had my software updated and cant now get into the core status. I see that users cannot now use this as its password protected.

How do I get into the “resource monitor”? I want to see how hard the cores are working using different Hqplayer filters. Its a good guide to identify ones that are too heavy

Cheers

I believe the vote is quite conclusive, we will be re-instating the resource monitor in the next AMS release TBA

Thanks Mark, admirable response.

Is being able to access the CPU Load core data available yet?

No this will need a GUI change, being worked on.
