K22 Server/Player - What is the best sounding App combo? (Roon, Squeeze, etc)

I haven’t had this issue. It would be frustrating to me if I did.

Thanks, I just reloaded Squeeze and will see how it goes. More listening ahead for me!

I only play WAV files stored locally with Squeeze, which is far from the norm. But it may explain why my songs all play through to the end.

Thanks Mark, I’ve done that.

I’m playing both from Qobuz as well as local WAV files and it has been random across the board.

I’ve been running the MPD–MinimServer combination for a few days now, and I’m really enthusiastic about it.
Coming from Roon–Squeeze.
I feel very relaxed while listening.
It’s not possible to trick the brain.

Hi Harry,

MinimServer is on my list to try when I have time. What player do you use with it?

Thanks,
Michael

I use Jplay with miniserver.
It’s really good.

Hello Harry,

What other apps can be used for control? There doesn’t seem to be a Linn Kazoo app for Android. At least, I get a message saying my Android version is too up-to-date. I’m using a DAC via AES/EBU as usual. I can’t use JPlay at the moment because it requires an iPad. I only have Android.

Hi Christian,

AI results are:
Mconnect Player
BubbleUPnP
Lumin

I use Kazoo on Windows.

I listened to the combination with the bubble upnp control app. Yes, the combination sounds good too. I switched back to Squeeze/Squeeze for a while. Hmmm, I simply like Squeeze/Squeeze better. On my system, tested against many other server/player options, Squeeze/Squeeze sounds dramatically more open, with more tonal colors, a more liberated performance, and, above all, air, air, air between instruments and performers. The other server/player apps play more cohesively. Which is also good. Yes, it’s a matter of taste…

Hi Christian,

I understand what you’re saying.
Try listening to a classical piece and compare the depth.
Squeeze has a warmer, more engaging sound with a forward presentation.

Hello Michael,
during last month I had the same question like you. I am using a K21 as player and a K40 as a server. And my problem was, what the best player. Roon, Squeeze or HQ Player. So I tried all of them. Squeeze has a limit at 176 kHz and downsamples my hires files and the DSD files. I was not happy with this. And now the HQ Player: The music lost its foundation in the bass range and sounded thinner there. For a lover of baroque music, this was unacceptable. So I returned to Roon with a great round and full sound and I am satisfied with it.
Kind regards
Kurt

Squeeze plays my Qobuz 24/192 streams at full resolution:

And my DSD 512 files play at full resolution as well:

Check your settings?

Thank you for answer. I will check it.
Kind regards
Kurt

Squeeze when combined with Roon maxes out at 4FS PCM and DSD64. Also on AMS versions earlier than v5, the C-3PO plugin needed to be enabled to go higher than 4FS/DSD64 when playing with Squeeze/Squeeze. Best to avoid that though. Fyi @Kurt

I have “Squeeze player with Roon server” selected, and I am still playing DSD 512 files. (?)

That is the Squeeze interface; you are listening to Squeeze.
For Roon + Squeeze, you must be inside Roon.
Squeeze Server is enabled.
