hi, i have to disks in my oladra but want to remove 1 to use as a usb backup. does anyone know how to do this i.e. can i just plug one out or will i lose data? worth saying that i’m using much less than half the total capacity of the 2 disks together so im hoping that all the files are on disk 1 and i can just pop disk 2 out
The data is spread across both disks so you will lose everything if you remove one of the disks. You’ll have to back your music up to an external or network drive before splitting the pair.
thanks Kenny. if i plug out one disk and then plug it back in will i still lose files?
Pulling out one drive will make your music unavailable until the drive is inserted again. I would not recommend doing it as it could cause all data to be lost.
Not a good idea to not already have a complete backup stored somewhere other than on this device.
hi Kenny do you know - if i have a spare sata i want to back up to via the oladra usb connection - should i mount it in ams first, then plug it into usb and copy files to it. or if i copy files without mounting it in ams will it work plugged into sata bay if my first sata disk fails?
I’m not sure I’m the best person to answer these types of questions as I have only done network backups of my music. I inserted a USB drive only once and I did so only to see how it works.
If you insert a drive into a spare slot in an Antipodes, my guess would be that it wouldn’t be accessible until it is added to storage, but once it’s added it can no longer be a distinct drive.
