Antipodes Audio - Updated Range and Upgrade Program - July 2023

Hi Marc,
I’m new to the forum and I’m thinking about giving my K30 the Oladra upgrade. What is an upgrade of the player engine and server engine? Is it more RAM memory on the board or is it a software update V5 to V6. Could you please enlighten me here. Greetings Jochen

Hi there, the K30 gets a new power supply, isolation footers, and a new USB, other benefits include an increase of 200% to 400% in system resources to improve system responsiveness, and enterprise-level OS resilience against data loss in unusual AC power events. More RAM is one component.

Hi JJJS,

It’s all about how the story is told. I am available for the dealers and consumers in the BeNeLux, i speak Nederlands, French English and German.
More than happy to help you out.
Audioxperience in Nuenen is dealer, and you can also contact me if you have questions
Kind regards

Nick, are you still convinced that the upgrade of your oladra to oladra 2 was worth the money?

@tommytwotimes in a word, yes, even though I do not use the USB output and prefer the bnc output to my Chord Mscaler + Dave.

The DIGITAL output gets a double reclock/regen on the G4

What’s involved with the Kala upgrade on the K22 please?

Also, is there a date when the upgrades will cease?

Thanks

The upgrade program window closes in August.
The cost of the upgrade includes all freight to and from your location .

The K22 has a new power supply and USB output along with isolation footers installed.

Boy oh Boy, after more than a year of reading and thinking I decided to go for the G4 version of my beloved K50 G1. What a Super Surprise, right out of the box (It did take 2,5 weeks between The Netherlands and New Zealand and vice versa) it did plays amazing. I’m not a reviewer and describing what I do hear is difficult for me (and English is not my mother language).

What I do experience is INVOLVEMENT (betrokkenheid).

Every track/recording (Flac-0 on internal 24TB SSD) brings me deeper, higher, lower and wider into the stage and the performance. Fantastic highs and Lows. A magnific articulation of the singing voices. Details without extracting it from the performance, a flow of natural sounds.

Foot tapping and Happiness all the way, older and newer recordings (Rock Blues Jazz).

Still, it is the magic of the K50 mk1 that is increased and not by a few percent.

One of my friends (knows my setup very well) was totally flabbergasted with the new G4 version. This was not expected and I’m very content with the Result.

So if you think about the G4 step, this is the last month (august-24) to decide to do.

For my ears it is a fantastic jump forward in enjoying music at home.

Thanks both of them Mark’s and the people of Antipodes.

The cost/benefit ratio is different for those who have passed the age of 65! Hearing specialists are aware that high frequencies are reduced in older patients as a consequence of age. Sometime I will confirm the theory that my K50 G2 sounds very similar to a K50 G4 because of my age. As I age more, my ability to discern which is the best sound will be negatively affected!

I am 60 and wear hearing aids.
I can hear the difference between a G2 and G4.
Yep, high frequency is not my forte, however that’s not the only arbiter to good sound.
Detail, air and speed are generally what I am listening for when testing.
There are two reasons to upgrade from G2 to G4…
1/ Sound quality
2/ Use ability

Everyone is different, everyones ears are different, everyones room is different.

We have recently been setting up new systems in our showrooms, the most important aspect of setting up a system for optimum sound reproduction, is how it interacts with the room.

I’m 59 and most certainly have had some hearing loss. That loss goes with me wherever I go. When I attend the symphony, a jazz performance, and even some rock concerts, what I hear becomes my reference for judging what I hear from my system at home.

For me it’s predominantly the time domain and how lifelike the ADSR envelope is reproduced (attack, decay, sustain, release). Also whether voices and instruments sound real and in the room with me. I’m not sure how much hearing loss one would have to incur to no longer be able to judge such things but my audiophile friends who are now in their 70s haven’t shown any sign of lessening discernment. But of course everyone’s ears are different.

If not done well, discernment becomes much more difficult.

Kenny. I am 69 and even if I say so myself I think my ability to hear subtle differences is still pretty keen. By far the bulk of frequency content for music is well below 10kHz in any case.

If my high frequency hearing loss was all that mattered then for sure I would not be able to hear the advantage of having an Oladra in my system and yet the improvement due to the Oladra is easy to hear.

Being 72 is probably why I think roon can sound as good as squeeze. Prog on!

My last hearing test was about a decade ago. The audiologist said that while I had some loss in the upper frequencies, that he expected I would be able to forgo a hearing aid longer than people of my same age. I actually suspect that was more about training in that this crazy hobby allowed me to zero in on low amplitude signals that non-audiophiles would struggle to hear. I suspect I’ve gotten better at doing this since then.

Obviously the three year difference between 69 and 72 is important!! Roon is still my least favourite.

I’m big into EQ now.
