I have been using Sablon Audio AES cable to connect from my Oladra to my Dac. I decided to purchase the Sablon USB cable so I could compare the outputs. I have used other USB cables. I tried using Squeeze/Roon and Roon could either not find the Oladra or the player app switched to digital.
I then tried Roon/Roon and either lost the Oladra as a player or it would not play. Has anyone used the Sablon USB cable with similar results? I did test the Sablon cable on other devices and it works.
A quote from the manufacturer on a forum… “In arriving at the sonic performance of the Evo model, I have taken the design further away from typical usb 2 spec and the parameters of some driver software / usb input card aren’t always comfortable with this deviation.”
If it isnt USB2.0 then all bets are off
Have had other users describe it as “finicky”
Some ‘audiophile’ usb cables have the power feed disconnected (on purpose) and some DACs require this to be present. @markramler is there any chance that the cable you have bought is one of these? Just trying the help. I have used a Sablon Evo usb cable in the past and have been very happy with it.
Nick
I do not know. Mark Cole sent me a refund and I am returning the cable. Great guy to deal with.
Mark, I guess that has sorted it but all I know is that the Sablon 2020 USB and then the Sablon Evo USB have worked flawlessly first with my K50 and now with the Oladra but in any case I have now abandoned USB and prefer to use BNC (but that is through no fault of the Sablons).
Nick I am currently using Sablon AES/EBU cable with my Aqua Formula dac, which is my preferred output and cable on the Oladra. However, I just purchased the Aires Cerat Ithaka Minor. AC optimizes the USB input and I want to compare the two inputs. I just ordered the Inakustik USB 2405 Air silver cable instead.

Mark, I have Oladra and Kassandra dac and the Vertere HB USB has been a wonderful find for me.
Did you try the other inputs on the Kassandra?
Yes. Aes is excellent and prior to lhe latest Oladra upgrade was the connection of choice. Since the upgrade the usb sounds much improved and I’ve slowly been finding my prefered cable. Have yet to compare the Argento AES to Vertere HB USB directly but will do that shortly…am currently not sure which I prefer.
