Connecting my Kala 50 to a new Aurender AP20

Hello all,

I am wondering if this is doable? I saw one thread talk about connecting to a Linn DSM, but I don’t know Linn DNA.
Anyway, the AP20 has limited digital inputs. 2 TOS and 2 coax. Has a network connection too. I think one recommendation was to use coax so at least not bypassing the reclocker/player in my 50.
I know the Aurender uses an app called conductor. How would you set up the server/player dashboard to have the output be compatible with the AP20 input.
Another concern is if coax is used the sample rates are lower?
What does network direct add to this situation.
Sorry to ramble but as you can tell I know a little bit about a lot of things.

I believe your only choice will be to output coax from the K50 into the AP20 and bypass the server section in the AP20 so acts as a DAC/Integrated amp. There are likely better choices if that’s what one will be doing. The AP20 is aiming for users who only want to “just add speakers”, so that’s really the optimal use case.

Wouldn’t another solution be to simply purchase a K 22 player so that he could use his Aurender as a server?

Aurenders are Roon Ready, not Roon Server.

So if you have a Roon Server on your network, then the AP20 can be used as a Roon endpoint.
All Antipodes Music Servers can operate with a Roon Ready endpoint, for optimal performance a dedicated server would be the way to go, that’s the K41, K50 or OLADRA, or old model S40 or CX.

Connect the AP20 via Direct Stream output for use with Roon and Roon Ready, if you are not a Roon user, then COAX and use the AP20 as a DAC.

What’s the reason for buying an AP20?
A separate DAC and amp would be a way better solution with a K50 IMHO.
