DX3 upgrade with EX Oladra

Hi ,
I have a DX3 and looking at buying a EX-Oladra . I would use the EX as a server and DX as a player.
Just asking if this is a good up grade or is there a better option only looking at spending approx.
$4000 NZD .

TBH, you would be better off with a dedicated server unit, such as a CX or S40, rather than using a player like the EX.

I have a DX, I use it as an “endpoint” with the OLADRA server, it works great, DX is a great player.

I once used EX as server, for a few years, including upsampling to 192kHz, conversionto DSD64 and some PEQ. It is possible for sure subject to:

  • not working it too hard (eg. high levels of upsampling or DSD conversion).
  • being happy with the sound

Some people prefer the EX sound.

Alternatively you could use DX as server and EX as player.
