When I first received a used Antipodes server/Player for someone I noticed all his music was listed at hi-res. I realiazed it was some how upsampled.
How do I upsample my FLAC files in this current eco system. Using Antipodes/Squeezelite. Seems 3CPO is dead. I can’t access SOX section. Anyone who has maybe explore this area, please chime in. Maybe it’s a waste of time ?
First off, whether upsampling is worth your time can depend on your DAC. The benefit software upsampling aims to provide, can be lessened or eliminated if the DAC applies its own upscaling.
Secondly, a big reason that Squeeze sounds so good is because it requires so little CPU usage to run. Generally, the greater the CPU usage, the greater the noise that’s created. That’s why I never even tried to upsample using Squeeze.
The only way I know to enable upsampling with Squeeze is via the C-3PO plugin. Enable it and you will find many options in setup for both server and player. I wouldn’t recommend that though.
HQPlayer is the best way to upsample on Antipodes. It’s complicated to set up and one has to be careful to configure it such that it doesn’t put too great of a load on the CPU. Trial mode is free so it can be used to figure out if they like what upsampling does for their music.
Another option is to wait to see if Antipodes brings us Audirvana. That has upsampling capabilities. I used it many years ago and they made it super easy to configure.
