JPLAY on Antipodes

I have a roon lifetime which makes it harder to abandon. I thought all was going well with the dsp plugin until I tried playing some pggb 16fs files. They didn’t play. A little more research is in order. I also have a Jplay lifetime and find it better than roon as well but squeeze is still the winner for now.

I have concluded that for me the sound quality is all that matters. I have spent a small fortune on an Antipodes Oladra and there seems little point in having done that if the sound quality is less than optimum so I have elected to use Squeeze/Squeeze rather than Roon (terrible in comparison) or JPLAY (better than Roon but nowhere near as good as Squeeze/Squeeze).

For sure the interface is not optimal but then when I watch a movie on the TV I just find it and press Play. I don’t need or want any of the other ‘interface’ stuff.

Hi,
try mdp player and squeeze server with jplay.

Nick

Oh please don’t do that to me, then I’d have to resubscribe to Jplay. My trial period is over. Why? Does it sound too good to be true?

Does anyone know what needs to be changed in LMS Server to make it support WAV files? I have no problems with MinimServer and MPD, but I do with Squeeze and MPD. Also, the album art doesn’t look the same in JPlay when I use LMS and MPD…it’s so strange.

Please search this forum for other Jplay threads; they also report that this combination doesn’t guarantee 100% functionality. Perhaps your error description is related to that issue.

Just opened a 14 day trial with Jplay on the old iphone6 remote, selected MPD/Minimserver on the K50, synced library, logged into Qobuz, and within 60 seconds I am playing albums and playlists through my kit.

I am amazed how easy this was! I thought maybe I would have to make accounts with some Minimserver host, or something. ??

Now to see if I don’t get tracks that don’t play, and stopping half way through tracks like I have been getting over the past few months for some unknown reason, with Roon and Squeeze. Qobuz and my internet was the only common factor in 2 separate systems with 2 different streamers for the issues. And every time I check my internet speed I get 300-600 mbps.

edit* nope, still get some tracks that won’t play. Sent an email to Qobuz to see if they have any answers.

I finished my 14-day trial with JPlay and today I decided to buy a lifetime license. I was so tired of the connection problems with Roon; every time I switched to compare Roon + Squeeze with JPlay, it was a nightmare. Constant CX restarts, my router wouldn’t detect it, and I’d end up having to restart both the router and CX several times. It would take me an hour to get it working… it was completely pointless to get worse sound.

JPlay offers me speed, reliability, and good sound without any problems. If I switch between Minimserver + MPD and Squeeze + Squeeze, there are no problems and it’s instantaneous. When I try it with Roon, it’s a nightmare.

Now I’m deciding between JPlay and pure Squeeze; both are very good.

JPlay is very, very good.

The interface and OS speed is excellent and when I do get drop outs on my Internet and /or K41 / K22, it gets it back working - FAST.

For me Squeeze/ Squeeze is still the better sounding of the two, but when I get drop outs, it’s sometimes painfully slow to reconnect/reboot.

I’ve had to go offline sometimes for 5-20 min and sometimes for hours or overnight to get it back, it’s something to do with my area / router connection latency or some such.

Thanks goodness it’s not for hours or overnight reboot very often, perhaps once or twice so far, but it’s enough to annoy me when it does.

It would be great if Squeeze+MPD could be used with JPlay. The times I’ve tried it, it hasn’t worked well; it won’t play WAV files. Also, the album art looks worse, blurry and with lower resolution… I don’t understand this since it looks perfect when I use pure Squeeze controlled by Xtune or Material Skin. Since it’s one of the options in the Antipodes menu, perhaps someone with more experience could contribute here.

Anyway, JPlay with MinimServer and MPD works perfectly.

Mdp with squeeze work with jplay.

Agreed! amazingly fast. Going forward I trust Marcin cares more about this and of course the sound quality and doesn’t load it up and bog it down with useless features like Roon has done over the years.

I was just about to ask others how to engage the “play similar tracks after queue ends” intelligent radio function, but thought I would spend a little more time trying to figure it out.
It is one of those once you know how to do it it seems easy, but not so much before you know: click on the bullseye at the top of the page showing the playing track.

Then one gets a list of similar style music which one can further fine tune to their liking by selecting thumbs up or thumbs down - I love it! Who needs Roon anymore?

Okay, but what do you think might happen with the WAV files that aren’t playing and with the album art? I wanted to see if the server makes a difference in terms of audio, although I do like the Minimserver + MPD combination.

I use Jplay with MPD+Mininserver. I have been having issues with Qobuz not playing a song. It will play other tracks on the same album but stubbornly will not play the one song I want. Then yesterday I hit track I wanted several times and it finally started playing. That has worked twice for me so far.

Just a reminder that the recommended setup for JPLAY is MinimServer and MPD:

You are not alone in the inability of Squeeze + MPD to playback WAV
