K21 and DSD files

Hello.
Today, I tested the K21 with DSD files. The result was that flawless playback was only achieved up to DSD 128. Given the price of the K21, I find this unacceptable.
Kind regards
Kurt

Hello Kurt, it depends on the player and server software you use. ( Roon-) Squeeze player is limited to dsd128. Wait for more answers from users with experience with this. Succes.

Please provide more details on how you tried to play these. Also let us know if your DAC supports native DSD or whether DoP is required.

I am a K21 owner, and I am playing a DSD256 album as I am typing this. It sounds glorious! I have a Roon/Roon configuration, native DSD.

Which DAC do you have?

Hello ,
thank you all for your answers. Yes , it is right. Roon is limited to 128 DSD. But changing the settings in my DAC Linnenberg Satie I have got now 352 khz when I am playing a DSD file. And this is great for my ears.
Best wishes to you
Kurt

Not sure if “great for my ears” was sarcasm. Assuming it was, note that DoP will send DSD128 over to a DAC that doesn’t support native DSD as PCM 352k. The DAC is supposed to detect that it’s actually DSD so it can play properly. If it fails to do this, only ear shattering noise will be heard. This is not the fault of the K21, it’s a problem with how things are configured.

It looks like your DAC will be limited to DoP when using a Linux server as ASIO is required for native DSD. Make sure DSD Method on the Solution Dashboard is set to DoP. Also see if you can configure DSD playback strategy from within Roon as DSD over PCM. The following is an example that I just randomly grapped.

The Linnenberg Satie spec is:

Resolution DSD: DSD64 (2.8224MHz) and DSD128 (5.6448MHz) over DoP protocol. (Native DSD256 and DSD512 can be received over ASIO.)

The limitation is the driver support of the DAC, it can only receive greater than DSD 128 via ASIO, ie. Windows.

For DSD64 and DSD128 the Antipodes DSD handling should be set to DoP for the Linnenberg Satie.

I am having a similar problem with my K50 gen 4. DSD 256 files will not play beyond the first few bars before I get a message that the file is loading too slowly. DSD 64 is fine and sounds good. I am streaming to a PS Audio Mark II Direct Stream DAC via HDMI. Thanks, Larry Segil

What is the software solution?
Where are the files stored locally or network?
The PS Audio Mark II Direct Stream DAC can accept up to DSD256 via I2S, the K50 is more than capable of playing these files back.

I am using Roon/Roon and playing from a 2Tb SSD mounted on the K50.

As mentioned, a K50 G4 can play back DSD 256 un-molested by upsampling, etc, without issue, If you are experiencing issues with playback then something else is at play.
If it is of concern, book a support session

I need to upgrade the firmware in my PS Audio MK II DAC and if that doesn’t solve the problem I will schedule a help session. Thanks, Larry
