K41 Network connection only getting 100Mbps

Wondering if any LAN, network or NAS experts can shed some light on this for me.

I have been trying to transfer files from my NAS to K41 and can’t get speeds above 100 Mbps rates. Is the “Network” input on K41 not 1 Gbps?

Everything else in the chain checks out - moving the CAT 6 cable to my laptop gives ~ 120 MB/sec but into the K41 I get ~ 10 MB/sec.

Any ideas? Thanks

There are many factors that affect transfer speed, what affects it most is the read/write speeds of the drives, additionally: Music libraries consist of thousands of small files. Large transfers of many tiny files are significantly slower than moving a single massive file (like a video) due to the constant opening/closing of file paths across the network.

Is there a filter limiting the speed? I know in my case my EtherRegen has a maximum of 100 Mbps so if I want to get faster download speeds to the K50 I need to remove it from the circuit before transfering the necessary files.

I do have an EtherREGEN but bypassed it for this exercise.

I understand Mark’s comment about different drive speeds, but would still expect more than 10 MB/s given the SSD installed in the K41. Same file transfer - same everything - except moving CAT 6 cable from K41 to laptop and speed jumps from < 10 MB/s to almost 120 MB/s.

Still confused. My observations with all permutations I’ve tried are that the K41 “Network” input is acting like it is 100Mbps and not 1 Gbps. So,

  • Can anyone confirm that they have observed close to Gigabit transfer speeds (something above 100 MB/s)?
  • If so, how might I proceed to verify that my Network port is functioning correctly? Could a remote session help diagnose this?

Thanks

First off, try rebooting. I could have sworn that the K50 would hang onto the slower speed even after pulling the EtherRegen out of the chain. A reboot can cause it to re-negotiate the speed.

Also, the color of the LEDs on the port might tell you. See the following. I’m thinking you should see green blinking if the port on the K41 is has negotiable a gigabit speed and MAYBE yellow if it’s operating at less than this.

Thanks for the suggestion. I gave it one more shot with fingers crossed but no luck - still stuck at 10 MB/s max.

I’m a little color-handicapped but definitely no green on the lights.

Oh well, steady as she goes… :upside_down_face:

By connecting your laptop and seeing higher transfer speeds, you likely ruled out the issue being upstream of your K41.

Earlier I checked how fast my synchronization app was transferring files to the K50 and the rate was under 100 but this isn’t a fair measure there’s overhead involved in the synchronization. I think the max transfer rate I’ve seen is just under 300 mbps. I validated with my AI tool that this is the most likely real world speed to expect with my synchronization job.

I checked the LEDs on the K50 and I thought they were green but it was tough to see behind there.

I would suggest setting up a support call just to ensure the hardware is functioning properly.
