When I pull up my K50 on the my antipodes app the setting indicator of CPU and Core Temp are going wild even when I’m not playing any music and roon is on pause. The CPU swings wildly from 10 % to 55 % over a short time and the Core Temp which usually ranged from 41 degrees to 51 degrees is now shooting up to 65 degrees — Have turned the unit off and will wait to hear from you Eli
Sounds like Roon background processing.
Have you set up any extra “mappings” to storage inside of Roon?
Have you turned the unit back on?
Logged out of everything and disconnected everything and like magic we are working again — Some communication from Roon to the May dac seemed to have caused the may to lock up showing DSD 1024x.
Roon server on my K50 is acting strange too now. The music keeps stopping, Roon server becomes unresponsive and the dashboard shows cpu jumping around between 0 to 112%. I’ve rebooted the K 50 my router and network switch. Seems to work again for a while but the problem comes back.
I’m using Squeeze Player.
I rebooted everything and it is working for now. Seems to last about a week. This started about three weeks ago.
Tonight was the worse it has been.
Hey Tony,
No apparent issues for me with Roon/Squeeze, it plays fine, but the CPU bounces from 1% to 40% upon last view.
By comparison Squeeze/Squeeze stays at 0% for both player and server, and it sounds so much better with a recent A/B of a few tracks, seems like an easy decision to me to stick with it.
Is your Squeeze/squeeze fine? It is acting up just when using Roon server?
For apples to apples comparison you have AMS 5.0.1, and Roon build 1559?
Yes, I have the latest software and Roon build. This issue just started a few weeks ago. I listened today with no issues and the Dashboard showed 0% CPU for the Server and Player. I’ll see how it is going later in the week again.
I have yet to try Squeeze/Squeeze. My trepidation is lack of experience with Squeeze as well as navigating the changes and loss of my Roon streaming library.
Yes, that is the setting I have. Settings haven’t changed in a year and a half. Got the software update on the K50 last winter. No changes until 3 weeks ago when I started experiencing these current issues.
I would typically reboot from time to time- every couple of months. Now I’m having to reboot weekly.
The last Roon update was released 27 days ago. If your K50 received this, it might be the culprit.
Roon has released updates every month this year according to the change log here. Likely we see an update pushed out before we get to the end of October.
It has been 3 days since rebooting and Roon is beginning to go unstable again. Earlier today everything was good. I am not playing music right now.
Do you have any additional watched folders set in Roon?
The only folder that should be in use is the default Music Folder.
If you continue to be concerned, please book a remote session with the team so they can have a look.
I do not.
I think the issue is with Roon and Qobuz. I was listening yesterday and one song on a streaming album would not play. Hours later I checked and it would play again.
I haven’t had to reboot the server in 5 days now but it is acting a little glitchy this evening. The, “Waiting for Roon Server” window keeps popping up on the screen and the server temp is up to 40/41C. It’s usually around 35/36C.
After 6 days from last reboot, I had to reboot the K50 again. Roon was disconnecting one or twice a minute- the pop up window “Waiting for your Roon Server.” The CPU was bouncing from 0 to 112% and Core temp up to 41C.
After reboot, Core temp is 34/35C and CPU 1-3%.
Still think it is a Roon issue. Last Roon update was September 22nd. Pretty sure my problems started soon after that.
It sure sounds like a Roon issue. It might help to sort out whether there is something unique to your configuration that might be causing it. The Roon forum can be the best place to sort that out as you can quickly learn if others are experiencing it and if any workarounds were identified. I’m guessing you’ve already done that but thought it worth mentioning anyway.
While I use Roon infrequently, I have Roon server locked so it’s always running. No issues at all with CPU utilization.
Any chance whether you’ve noticed the CPU spiking even when not playing music? Or does it only happen when playing something? Have you tried changing the player choice to see if it keeps it from recurring?
