Nagra streamer?

Has anyone any experience with the Nagra streamer? Im getting a loud pop when the bitrate changes on my oladra and im thinking of downgrading as i have tried everything to solve the problem. The only way to get rid of the issue is to downsample everything to 44100 which i would prefer not to do. Im thinking that the Nagra streamer into the nagra dac hd using their Nlink port could be better and solve the pop issue. Im wondering how nagra streamer might compare to an oladra before i try it.

I have using the Oladra into the HD DAC via USB for a long time and never had any pop issues when changing bitrate. The HD DAC does a mechanical click but nothing more. I recently introduced the Nagra Streamer via NLink to the HD DAC and it is a beautiful thing. I have been an Antipodes fan for a while so hopefully I am not raising heresy here but I prefer it to the Oladra player via USB. Subtle differences, wider soundstage, a different color flavor and better resolution in busy orchestral passages. Overall a plus for me. I am still using the Oladra as my music server but not the player portion.

That’s interesting - I’ve had a similar experience with K22/K41, after changing DAC to Weiss Helios where dropping the K22 for the integrated Weiss player has improved instrumental timbre and offers a wider soundstage. So I’ve moved on the K22 and am using the K41 as server/Roon core.

Try to use the aes between oladra and dac.

Have you tried using the nagra as the server aswell?

hi Tommy,

  1. have you upgraded the Nagra streamer to the latest firmware?
  2. I don’t think this is your case but in my case (Nagra streamer into Nagra Tube DAC) I had to to an update on the DAC as well (it requires dealer support) as I had some challenge on some sample rates

I have quite a few DSD files > than DSD64 so it was a non starter. Great reviews online that prefer the AES vs USB. Personally I preferred the USB sound between the two. maybe setup or cables.

Yes in both streaming via Tidal and with a USB M2 drive directly connected. Again for me, it is an uptick from the Oladra but it comes with some drawback and caution. The Mcontrol app used is both old and clunky, nothing compared to Roon. It does the job the is nothing elegant there. You essentially have to browse the content by folder and files the old fashion way. Connecting a usb drive has been interesting. I tried different brand of SSD and enclosure to finally settle with a Dockcase enclosure (it has a battery backup) and a M2 drive. There were significant and distinguishing sound differences not all better than the Oladra. There is also no provision in the app to connect or link a NAS shared folder. My final use case is using the oladra as a file server, the Nagra Streamer as an enpoint via Roon. Once is a while for critical listening I will switch and use the Nagra as a server via the Mcontrol app.
