hi, i’m using roon server+squeeze player, going via USB to a DSD dac (lampizator Poseidon) but not seeing DSD native in roon options. Myantipodes.com settings are set to native dsd and the output is set to the Poseidon Dac. Any ideas why im not seeing Native DSD in roon settings? (i already unplugged the USB cabled and power cycled the dac as roon suggest). thx
Had a similar problem which was solved when I connected the DAC via Ethernet to the same switch as Antipodes, then changed the setting for the DAC (now identified by Roon as the output) under Sample Rate Conversion in Roon’s Muse settings to ‘For compatibility only’. Returning to AES or USB connection to DAC from Antipodes, Roon continues to show no upsampling/processing but now accepts Native DSD. Hope this might work for you.
thx, unfortunately my dac doesnt have an ethernet connection. and i dont use sample rate conversion in roon.
You do not need to set it up in Roon, it is set in the Dashboard.
Using Roon+Squeeze, Roon limits the output to 24/192 and DSD64.
Not so in my experience. Roon was converting DSD64 to PCM when my setting on Dashboard was Native. This was corrected when I followed the procedure I outlined in my post. I don’t use sample rate conversion.
I wasn’t sure what to make of your post the first time I saw it as I didn’t know was Muse was. Since you mentioned it again, I thought I should read up it. What I learned was this:
“If DSP features are not your cup of tea, rest assured that just as in previous versions of Roon, all-digital signal processing is disabled by default, except when it’s required to maintain compatibility with your output device.”
Maintaining compatibility is accomplished by performing sample rate conversion. So it’s confusing how this could have enabled native DSD. I’m almost inclined to think it’s actually a bug that is actually working in your favor. Regardless, I’m glad it works for you.
When i choose Native DSD in the dashboard and use USB to my dac with say roon+roon, roon does not give me native DSD as an option (under DSD playback strategy in settings). Which suggests my dac (lampizator horizon 360) does not support native DSD but it clearly does. Not sure where the problem is.
The settings are offering DOP as an option rather than Native.
That’s across all Antipodes devices, nothing to do with the DAC, rather the way Roon is configuring the use of Squeeze in the interface.
I’m not an expert on the vaguries of the Roon/Squeeze underlying software as we have no control over what Roon supplies.
At this point I can only ask the developers if there is a way in future for DSD64 Native to work.
In all honesty if you are wanting to use Native DSD wouldn’t you want more than DSD64 anyway?
Did Lampizator offer any assistance with this? They have many customers using Roon.
Not yet but i will ask
Yes i would like more than 64 but i cant get any form of dsd working between antipodes and my dac regardless of the player. Even with roon+roon dsd doesnt work - neither dop or native
I wonder if you ever got an answer to this. I can play DSD 64 using AES and downsampling higher DSD rates, but USB using Roon keeps reverting back to PCM conversion. Because of this and because USB passes no sound at all if using Squeeze or Squeeze+USB I have concluded that the USB function just doesn’t work and I have to forget it.
It seems that dsd doesnt work in roon if you have volume levelling or any other kind of dsp enabled. Still haven’t worked out why dsd doesnt work using squeeze+squeeze.
