If you are running a modern Linux distribution since approximately 2019+, you should not be impacted.
We know popular distributions such as Ubuntu, Debian, Arch, and Fedora are not impacted. If you aren’t sure, continue reading on how to test your system.
If affected …
Update your Linux distribution to a version that supports glibc 2.27 or above, and openssl-1.1.1 or above.
The new version of Roon was called OS3.0 but now the new update released is called 2.65. I downloaded it and with much anticipation I tried it out with my K50 set on Squeeze/Roon. It sounds good, I thought. I played a few songs and then switched back to MPD/Minimserver and using jPlay. No contest. With jPlay the soundstage opens up. The sound is larger, more airy and more crisp. The images and soundstage seem to go from 2D to 3D.
It reminds me of CDs twenty years ago. I would play a CD, think it sounded good and then I would put on a record. The images would move from 2D to 3D and the soundstage would open up, so much more expansive.
20 years ago I would listen to maybe one CD to warm up the system and then switch to vinyl. Now I can enjoy streaming/CDs as much as vinyl. The information was locked in the CDs all this time. And its still improving…
My DS 3 seems impacted. Since the Roon update I cannot connet to the core any more. Is this the end for my DS 3?.
