What grounding you guys use with Oladra G4? Any recommendations?
Puritan Audio Ground Master works for me.
Quietens down the background
I suggest if you have shelled out for an Oladra, your whole system deserves comprehensive grounding with grounding sysyem of similar calibre. There can be a significant difference between simple grounding cables and devices and higher grade products.
I use Synergistic Research Active Ground Block SE with HD and HDSX ground cables to ground all components and cables that can be grounded.
My router and ONT, and related cables are grounded to Synergistic Research passive ground block. There is a vast difference between the actuve and passive models, and these are not top of the line in this brand.
Grounding one component is barely the tip of the iceburg of potential.
I never used any grounding with my system. Iām using Ansuz active cables, power conditioner and switch and my dealer advised that I donāt need additional grounding devices.
I only have three components now where Oladra and Diablo 333 have grounding posts. Interesting to learn that you grounded your router and ONT as well. How do you ground these devices or their DC cables?
Puritan Ground Master with external grounding rods in my garden
Preferred mine to Synergistic, better performance.
Computer Audio Designs GC 3.1 for signal grounding and GC 3.0 for chassis grounding.
Ah, that explains why no grounding.
My router has a ground terminal, with my previous router I openned it up and found a suitable screw to use.
The ONT is not as easy, it belongs to the provider and is a sealed unit without ground. So I use a ground cable with a rj45.
Those are connected to the Synergistic Research passive ground block, which is further āconditionedā by sitting on a Synergistic Research Tranquility Pod, and the ground block is connected to the earth of an ifi AC purifier which is really just a makeshift termination for now.
On my wish list is time to explore how to somehow connect my 2 ground blocks direct to a dedicated well installed earth rod, perhaps via something like the puritan. There are several other things higher up the wish list. Currently finishing developing a hybrid triple cascade type smps/linear psu for the ONT and router.
Thanks for the explanation. Iāll check whether my MikroTik router has any grounding options. My ONT is a TP-Link, so itās similar to yours.
I use iFi PSUs for both devices.
Interesting. Do you mean a DIY PSU, or is it something of the shelf?
My ONT is Alcatel/nokiafor GPON, My router is Mikrotik CRS 305.
It will be DIY using off the shelf components.
Is that because you couldnāt find a suitable power supply on the market, or are you already going down the DIY route?
My experience has been that LPSs on network switches tend to soften the attack and reduce perceived transient impact. SMPSs, on the other hand, can sound a bit harder and more ādigitalā.
For me, your approach makes sense.
Do you have any recommendations for a router power supply that can be purchased off the shelf?
