My Ethernet search is now on hold. After discarding a quality power supply, an audiophile Switch, several cascading Switches, several FSPs, some expensive LAN cables, a Powerbox and a well-known Passive Filter, I’ve decided to purchase the Ansuz D3.
Please read the reviews on Soundnews.net and Hifi-Advice.com and others and see what I mean, they are telling the story
@Steven365 There are no universals with networking it seems. My results may be different to your which may both be different to somebody elses.
At the time of the comparison, the Melco S100 + LPS + Vertere HB ethernet cables were better in my system than with just the Waversa Smarthub + Vertere HB ethernet cables. Those cables are very special and are responsible for a lot of the improvement in sound, and the Waversa made a not dissimilar sounding improvement to the cables so was missing the ‘thing’ the Melco was doing in my system (cleaning up transients, improving separation).
But in my system the Melco S100 and the Waversa filters would not work together although apparently they do quite nicely in other systems, however the Waversa Smarthub + Waversa filter is beautiful here. It is an all or nothing thing unfortunately. If I was not prepared to drop a lot more $$ for the Waversa filter+Smarthub I would have stayed with the Melco.
Where in the world are you? If in Aus I may be able to send my Melco to you to try.
@Acg Thanks a lot, mate, for sharing your thoughts. My newly purchased Vertere USB and Ethernet cables are on the way — really hoping they live up to their reputation! I was thinking of getting another Vertere Ethernet cable, but I’m not sure if the second one (between the router and switch) would bring as much benefit as the first (between the switch and the K50 G2).
Thanks for the generous offer as well — I’m based in NSW 2155. I’ll send you a PM about the Melco.
@Steven365 I use the Vertere USB here…it is also a very special cable…not hifi, just balanced and real.
In every position I have tried the Vertere ethernet cables they have improved the sound. There are three currently in my system, and I will probably end up with two more from the NBN box to the modem to the house router.
