I’ve recently upgraded from a DX3 to a K21, I just love the sound of the K21. I’ve been playing around with upsampling and have noticed an improvement when using DSD64 (which is pushing the K21 to it limits). This has me considering splitting the server out so I can play around with upsampling more extensively than the K21 will allow. Which route would be better, a powerful computer, in another room attached via moca or a K41. I stream exclusively so the storage on the K41 would not even be used, just concerned which would give the better sound quality?
The K41 should provide an edge in sound quality but it is constrained in ways that a more powerful computer would not be. I’ve been able to reliably upscale only up to DSD256 with the K50’s server engine (which is equivalent to the K41s) but haven’t been able to take advantage of the revamped HQPlayer’s modulators that are less CPU-intensive.
I would suggest starting with a computer to get things sorted out as far as which HQPlayer settings you will ultimately want to aim for. The K41 can then be potentially considered as an upgrade path.
