Problem with antipodes CX

Hello everyone,

I’ve been experiencing an issue with my Antipodes CX over the last few days. I normally leave it in standby, and when I turn it on (green light), it used to activate my Ayre QB-9 Twenty DAC without any problems. However, it no longer does so.

To get it working, I have to switch the CX off using the rear power switch and then turn it back on again. After doing that, the DAC is detected and everything works normally.

Has anyone experienced something similar or knows what might be causing this? Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

How is it connected?
USB?

Yes usb, The ayre qb9 has only USB ¿Why?

Advice from Antipodes:
PowerUp sequence (if DAC is already connected by USB cable)

-First the DAC

-Second the K50

PowerDown sequence:
-First the K50

-Second the DAC

If the Ayre have no sound what do you see in Antipodes Dashboard as output?

The DAC doesn’t have a power button; it’s always connected to the CX. It activates when the CX is turned on. When I’m finished listening to music, I simply turn off the CX using the button on the front panel.

Since the DAC is not activated, I cannot access the panel even though the CX is on.

It’s best to leave servers turned on.

I’ve already thought about that, but then I understand it will be consuming electricity, or is it dangerous to leave it on? Could someone from Antipodes confirm this?

If you search this forum, you should find posts from @MarkCole recommending that servers be left powered on.

I’ve had the Antipodes CX on for three days now, and I really think the improvement in sound is worth it. There’s a noticeable difference compared to turning it off and leaving it in standby mode. My only concern is that the DAC, the Aire QB9 twenty, is always on. When I stop listening to music, the last frequency number of the song (44, 96, etc.) remains on the screen. I don’t know if this could be harmful to the DAC or dangerous for it to be on all the time. Could it damage the display? That’s my only worry.

I’ve had an Ayre QB9 for many years. Never had any issues with leaving the sever and DAC powered on. Yes, the sample rate from the previous file stays on when the server remains on, but no issues.

Thank you so much for your reply. The truth is that yesterday, listening to music felt like a more exciting and natural experience.

Fellow QB-9 Twenty user here. I have a CX & EX combo. All are left powered on unless I’m away for an extended period of time. Never had any issues, and yes the sound benefits from being left on.

I have the display turned off on my QB-9 via the dip switch on the back. It only lights up briefly with sample rate changes

Thank you for your reply, I will keep what you say in mind and put it into practice.

Happy to help! As well, to the post from kennyb123 above, Antipodes recommends leaving powered on.

I have a CX as server, DS-3 as player, Bel Canto Dac. I leave all 3 units on 24/7. From what I’ve read these units are like computers. It’s no extra wear on them leaving them on all the time. I used to turn off the DAC, but not anymore. Only exception is if I’m gone somewhere on vacation. Anyone else do the same ?
