I have a G4 K50 AMS V5 running Squeeze server and player. I had been experiencing some intermittent problems with my system wheer one channel would go silent. I have been troubleshooting my DAC and power amps (I run direct from my Kassandra to MusikLab M300s) with no conclusive result. The fault didn’t seem to follow the either channel on the DAC or the channel on the power amp. I had been running USB from the K50 to the Kassandra, and as part of the troubleshooting, swapped the output to AES. Things had been going fine one AES until the problem described below.
Today while playing music Squeeze reandlony reduce the volume, around 25 ‘units’ on the Squeezer app. This happened a couple of times from various volume levels. I rebooted both the server and player apps and the same thing is happening. The starting volume ranged from 60 to 40, so the issue seems independent of that factor.
Thank goodness it was reducing rather than increasing the volume.
Has anyone experienced something similar? Any thoughts? I’m now thinking the previous issues may be related to this one.
Are you using the volume control of the software rather than the hardware?
Sounds like it, but just want to confirm.
Is your AMS v5.0 or v5.0.1.
You may wish to book a support session to update to v5.0.1 if not already.
As mentioned I stopped using Squeezer and had no issue with the random volume reduction. I tried using Spotify to see if the channel cut-out was related to the streaming service, and Spotty exhibits the same issues.
So it appears the issue is independent of the of the streaming service itself. The random volume change could be an unrelated Squeezer problem as this has not recurred since I stopped using that software.
I don’t think it is an amplifier problem as there is no clicking from protective relays, and sometimes the channel will drop out and come back 4-5 times in 20-30 seconds.
I think the issue is in the DAC or K50. I’ve swapped the DAC output to see if the issue follows that swap and keep you posted.
Hi @kennyb123, not sure, I only used the Squeezer app on my Android phone, and I haven’t tried any other remote apps. I want to get the channel cutout sorted first. Cheers
Sorry, now I understand the question. The single channel cutout happens when using the browser to control Squeeze. Since I’ve stopped using Squeezer the both channel volume reduction hasn’t re-ocurred.
Thanks for the suggestion @kennyb123. Unfortunately I don’t run a pre-amp instead using the digital volume control in Squeeze.
Further testing (hard when the fault is intermittent) indicates the issue is independent of the input to the power amp. I’m doing some further testing to isolate that component as the culprit.
I understood that and factored it into my recommendation. I don’t believe that any of these will take away your ability to control the volume with Squeeze.
