Antipodes Audio - Updated Range and Upgrade Program - July 2023

Re-use and Recycle processes cannot be at the low down of the list of any firm today.

I was meaning low down in terms of urgency/timing priority rather than importance.

Maybe we should also ask them what they keep their thermostats set to and whether or not they use recycled toilet paper.

Yes that was sarcasm. :grinning:

Thatā€™s what I call the most amazing contribution of this forum.
Clap, Clap, Clap!!!
You should feel really proud, indeed.

Yesā€¦ surfing the sarcasm wave

We are as green as we can be, coming from New Zealand it is a major focus for all businesses here.
Recycling is something that Antipodes takes very seriously.
What we donā€™t keep on hand for repair/replacement, is ethically recycled.

I apologize if I have missed this butā€¦ is there a procedure to follow before shipping our units back?

@Progisus

The only things you need to ensure isā€¦

1/ Your music is backed up
2/ If you have a Roon backup ensure it is located on the storage drive or externally, NOT in Root or the Roon default location.

Otherwise, nothing else to do.

Hi Mark
Your reply is not the most specific and objective.
Maybe you havenā€™t really thought about this, which is fine for me, since a lot of new things are happening now at Antipodes (new models, upgrade programā€¦).
If anyone wants them, for some personal DIY project, would you consider to return the replaced parts to the original owners?

Mark,

Should owners upgrading then leave their hard drive(s) in their units when shipping for upgrade or remove prior to shipping?

@worknprogress
It is our preference that you keep your SSD installed.
Ensure that is backed up

From our website:

ā€œTogether with a focus on using recycled materials and minimising emissions, our modern premises are an environmentally optimised building with double glazing, a 5.1kW solar photovoltaic array, a 3.8kW 18m high wind turbine, low energy LED lighting throughout, and a solar thermal hot water panel augmented by heat pump water heating. Excess power creation is transferred to the national grid.ā€

Our factory is in high-spec office space that complies 100% with the latest building code, and is very energy efficient, and as stated generates electricity by wind turbine and solar panel, interacting with the national grid.

We are located in a Commercial Park environment with a major recycling station about 300m away. At that station we deliver our recyclable cardboard, electronics and metal to facilities set up to make the most out of these. We dispose of some plastics and kitchen waste at this facility for appropriate treatment.

We have looked several times at how to reduce our use of plastic packaging but there is nothing suitable available for heavy electronics beyond our current approach. Things like wooden crates and Pelican-style casing just add to the packaging waste. So we currently use recyclable cardboard with EPE plastic for cushioning.

All constructive suggestions will be welcome as it is an area we look at regularly and we want to do our best in this area.

Thanks for that overview.

By way of a constructive suggestion, I still think that shipping the Oladra from the UK to NZ and back for its upgrade is perhaps not the best use of aviation fuel or carbon footprint and that it would be more environmentally aware to handle the changing out of boards and back plate within the UK. Is it possible to reconsider this?

Even better, when I had a Bricasti DAC the manufacturer shipped out upgraded power supplies and boards to end users for self installation which suited me even better although I can understand a reluctance to go down that route.

Hi Nick,

Where we get things made or assembled comes down to just one thing. Managing quality and therefore the brand image.

I can list firms that have failed to do that and lost their businesses entirely. All in the name of saving costs. It is a judgement call for us. We certainly donā€™t like how much we pay to DHL, but we assemble every product we sell here in our Otaki factory. In some countries (where we have experienced and skilled service centers) we allow repairs and some upgrades.

One of the problems is that while distributors have experience and skills with straight-out audio electronics, the difference when service something that is computer-based is significant, and we have sometimes learnt that the hard way.

To protect the user experience and our brand, we have to make the call based on what we have experienced with each distributor with each type of procedure, with the objective of making sure the work is always done to the standard required.

Hi @antipodes

Thanks for the reply. Iā€™m looking forward to the Oladra upgrade roll out starting. I booked this through the UK dealer thinking they were carrying out the work themselves and unfortunately this has turned out to be the wrong thing to do but hopefully my Oladra can be collected from me direct by Antipodes rather than having to travel the 800 miles there and back to Elite in addition to the NZ trip. :+1:

I believe Elite will be organising the collection and theyā€™ll probably ship all the Antipodes stuff for upgrade in one container to NZ.
Thatā€™s the impression I got when I spoke to Andrew

Yes, that would be my belief as well. no way elite will individually send to NZ each box .

Anyway, itā€™s not really our problem, thatā€™s why weā€™re paying Elite to sort it out.

Except that is what is happening for everyone else, ie individual shipping and return of each box.

Also, as and when people get to the front of the queue they will expect their device to be shipped off rather than wait for a large enough batch to be got together for communal shipping.

It makes more sense to me for Antipodes to arrange shipping on a box by box basis for individuals whether or not booked through the UK dealer or booked direct with Antipodes.
