I am trying to rip a CD Box set but I am getting a message that Advanced Meta-Data API is currently not available and so will not rip any CD in the set. Is this a similar issue we’ve had before?
Thanks, Paul

While I fundamentally agree with you. However, in the Antipodes user guide, concerning ripping CD’s, it does make the point “that great things take time.” Maybe this was referring to the metadata service being intermittent in operation.
Mark, we all bought 20KUSD music servers. For that money you can expect a product to work.
It’s not working, nothing we can do about it, no timeline - the same status for a month now. You are aware that you are just right now killing your market and pushing customers over to Taiko, right?
I understand the CD Ripping situation is a frustration; one we are all experiencing, however, it is beyond our control. The metadata service is not controlled by Antipodes Audio.
We are working on solutions; however, there is no ETA I can give.
In the interim, I suggest using either EAC or dbPoweramp for your ripping needs.
Marc, I find you are quite cavalier about this issue.
The point is not that it would not be possible to use some add-on SW tools. The point is that when people buy a music server for 20K, they expect it to work. And they can expect that at this price point.
If we were talking about a Roon Core for 1-1.5K, the answer would probably be fine. But in this case it is not.
That the third party who owns the service can’t keep their service running reliably tells us that this isn’t an easy fix. It’s probably not even their software that needs the fix.
Also everyone who has even the slightest bit of SW development knowledge should know that a manufacturer who relies on a third party has no ability to fix the code a third party owns.
Most of us here been eager to see Antipodes release an update to the software stack. No way they should halt this to fix the CD ripper when it’s so easy to rip CDs using a PC or Mac.
I ditched Antipodes to rip CD with my mac now. I quite understand what Kuoppis is getting at. Considering Antipodes makes ripping CDs in their user guide, it should be working like it should. Such occasions has been occurred many times based on the frequent reports from users and that’s why Marc asks us to report in just one thread. If it happens like once in a year and being fixed in timely manners users will be happy. What surprised me is that it seems the issue is still on going for like weeks? Antipodes should really consider changing how it works or shed some lights on possible fix / turnaround rather than saying “we have no control of it.”
I totally get where you are coming from. Just keep in mind that what Antipodes has been selling are music servers loaded with third party software. When there is an issue with any third party software (like Roon or Squeeze), Antipodes is telling the truth when they say they have no control over some things.
The only real solution to these kinds of problems is for Antipodes to develop their own software. That’s not an easy thing to do and nagging at them to fix ripping CDs isn’t going to help them get something out the door any more quickly. When I chime in, I do so only to remind people that it is a zero sum game that we are dealing with.
Once Antipodes is able to get their own software to us, they will gain the ability to control the outcomes they can’t control today. We just have to continue to be patient. I know how hard that can be because I may be one of the least patient people on the planet.
I agree fully with this. I have just spent a frustrating time trying to rip CDs directly into my K41, and wondering why it didn’t work. Googled Antipodes CD ripping and found this thread.
Yes this may be down to a third party supplier, but no it still isn’t acceptable for components with this price tag.
The only ‘help’ from Antipodes so far is to suggest using db power amp. I haven’t used it before, and perhaps there’s a straightforward guide somewhere (I haven’t googled it yet), but otherwise I suspect it’ll be a case of wasting yet more of my time working out the process.
