Thank you, @MarkCole ; appreciate the input but just to clarify ( and appreciate you bearing with me bc it IS a bit challenging for me) - but when viewing these screenshots does it appear I have everything configured properly to you? What REALLY confuses me that as configured I see most artists are expressing duplicate albums. One album plays and the other does not. In other words if we look at the latest Lucy Dacus album you will see two albums “Forever is a Feeling.” One album has the icon that resembles and appears to be tied to a “Jplay file” and the other appears to express an icon that = Squeeze. This does
You should be able to play Qobuz via Squeeze, book a remote support session if you can’t get that to work.
You have two UPnP libraries enabled one is MinimServer and one is Squeeze Server.
Disable the one that you don’t want to listen to in JPLAY and rescan the library.
I’m not sure what you mean by the K22 doesn’t show.
I let Mark handle the online troubleshooting. But it seems important to realize that you need to use either MConnect or JPLAY — not both at the same time. One control app at a time. If you alternate between them, songs will be queued by one app, so likely the other can’t play them. So, make sure Mconnect is closed and only JPLAY is open.
Everything seems fine to me, but if there’s a small bug, they’ll track it down. Good luck!
Ps your k22 output is over Ethernet, correct? No digital output? If you do play digital audio out I would think you have to choose MP-60 as output instead of UPnP?
I tried JPlay today. I have been using Squeeze/Roon since about the time I got my K50 last year. I like the sound using MPD/Minimserver/JPlay but I am a bit frustrated with the library in JPlay. I show the same number of albums as in Roon- a combination of SSD files and Qobuz saved albums, but I show only about a third of the number of tracks in JPlay as I have in Roon. So many of my saved songs in Roon are not showing up in JPlay. Any way to rectify that?
Frustration was what I experienced too. You will need to first sync MinimServer and then sync JPlay. This will need to be repeated every time you add or remove music.
If you’ve done that and still don’t see everything, there may be something about the tracks that caused MinimServer to ignore them.
I relied on MinimServer many years ago when I had the original Auralic Aries server. Hated it so much then that I rejoiced when Roon was launched. I mention that as one plus was that the MinimServer developer was responsive. I think there may be an online support forum now so that might be helpful.
I find I have to search for the album or song that I want if I cannot find it in the JPlay library. I did rescans and library updates. The good thing that I found is that I can turn on the Roon Server along with the Minimum Server App on the K50. That allows me to use Roon ARC. That is good for two reasons: 1) I can still use Roon ARC to stream in my car with Apple CarPlay, and 2) I can find my favorite songs/albums on JPlay using Roon as my guide- just no audio device connected. It’s a workaround, I know until I figure some things out about JPlay.
The longer I listened to JPlay the more I liked the sound of the music. At first I thought the rhythm and pace was not as good as Squeeze/Roon but I was so not sure about that later on. For one thing, I was too distracted really in my first listening session with Jplay because I was aggrevated trying to find my albums and songs to really listen to the music.
Just a quick question. Is it possible to configure JPlay on Antipodes servers without going through Minimserver/MPD? So that you can select JPlay/JPlay directly in the Antipodes dashboard, like Roon/Roon or Squeeze/Squeeze. It would certainly sound quite different, or even better, if JPlay took complete control (server/player). How is this implemented on an XACT S1 as a music server/player?
The Jplay app in both would still reside on an IOS device. It routes the stream directly from the storage device to the player device while roon grabs the stream and sends it out from the roon server device to the player. In Jplay the library database resides on the apple device while in roon it resides on the server. It appears the xact and antipodes servers work exactly the same way.
I listened using Jplay last night. I like the sound more and more. I was in a much better mood this time as I wrestle with Jplay’s file management. I had my iPhone in one hand referring to my Roon database while operating Jplay on my iPad. Considering how differently these two programs operate- the differing architectures, I don’t see how Roon could ever match the sound quality of Jplay or Squeeze.
This hobby is insane. First, we started with speakers to select the sound we wanted. Then we found out amplifiers could sound different and then it was turntables, tonearms and cartridges. Then it was speaker wire, interconnects and even power cords we found affect the sound. In the digital domain we learned about the importance of ethernet cables and network switches to achieve the best sound. And now I find out the software running the music player makes a difference. Where will this hobby go next? Tattooed eardrums?
Well the science says if you put black under your eyes will be able to track a football’s trajectory more easily, not sure about sound waves though.
Good to hear you have finally experimented with a different software option beyond the Roon server/Squeeze player platform. Honestly I haven’t tried Jplay yet, I thought I would by now but so much other stuff to play around with first, PGGB has been the latest venture and I find it is a huge benefit, but that software is definitely DAC dependent. When you say “wrestle” that is exactly how I felt about HQ player. Give Squeeze/Squeeze a try. That is my go-to when I want the cleanest most transparent delivery, but I still find Roon/Roon is just fine 80% of the time (IMO).
I was just about to say if we had a streamer such as Grimm, Roon would be our only choice, but I see they have just released an update a few weeks ago where one can use Jplay or Tidal connect with them as well! It will be interesting to read about those users debating the Roon/Squeeze/Jplay merits along with us Antipodes users.
I know what you mean, I keep shaking my head everytime I put a different piece of copper in the system and hear the change and ask myself HOW? But HOW?? And how is it possible a different outlet improves the system considering there is cheap builder’s grade romex in the wall before (or after) it? And how the @#% can a different modem sound different? Come to think of it, my speaker cables are some undisclosed alloy, I don’t know if there is any copper or silver in there at all, but they are the best ones I have had! So much for the engineering statistics stating which metals are the most conductive/less resistive.
I don’t think we will ever have the answers to most of the questions regarding nature, but perhaps the best question is why do we need them? Just use the best sound measuring device on the planet, your pet bat. If you don’t have one use your own ears.
I am experiencing a slight issue with Jplay when using the slider bar. It sends the track to the position on the slider and plays from there as it should but the slider jumps back to zero and restarts but does not affect the position of the playing track.
Using Squeeze Player / Server.
I switched back to Squeeze/Roon for a few days. It was such a pleasure using the Roon Library again. I tried to convince myself that the sound was almost as good but last night after listening for a while I was not quite satisfied so I switched to MPD/Minimum Server/Jplayer. It’s not even close. I ended up playing every song I had just listened to with Roon all over again with JPlayer. I sure miss Roon’s functionality. It’s better than JPlayer by the same margin as the sound of JPlayer over Roon. The trials and tribulations of a neurotic audiophile.
Still experiencing this issue with Jplay when using the slider bar. It sends the track to the position on the slider and plays from there as it should but the slider jumps back to zero and restarts but does not affect the position of the playing track.
Also when playing an album it repeats a few seconds of the song just played before the next track.
Using Squeeze / Squeeze / jplay.
Anyone experienced this?
Click on the tiny icon at the top right that looks like a chair while playing the song. That opens a page with more information about the song. The slider on that page shows the time played and time left like in Roon. I haven’t seen problems with the slider stopping on that page; but I have not been using it long.
